Effectiveness of Music on Perinatal Anxiety Among Pregnant Women and Newborn Behaviors: A Systematic Review and Narrative Synthesis

Background: Perinatal anxiety affects the antenatal woman, growing fetus, and newborn. This systematic review evaluated effect of listening to music on perinatal among pregnant women newborn behaviors. No available reviews focus interventions that include only classical forms or its benefit low-risk Methods: We included peer-reviewed primary research studies anxiety, published in English, between January 2010 August 2022. PubMed, Embase, Scopus, ProQuest were searched using specific keywords, resulting 225 for screening by title, abstract, full text. Two independent reviewers screened them assessed quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs) Cochrane’s Risk Bias 2.0 tool (RoB2) non-randomized trial Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal tool. Due heterogeneity outcome measures, review’s findings summarized qualitatively. Results: Nine with 1646 one 260 their neonates included. Results all suggest reduces levels women, as measured State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). Only study reported beneficial exposure improving behaviors like orientation (ES 1.13, 95% CI: 0.82–1.44, P < 0.0001) habituation 1.05, 0.53–1.57, = 0.0001). The risk bias was unclear most studies. Conclusions: Listening during period may be an effective non-pharmacological intervention reducing pain sleep There is a need conduct further interventional types provided effects health outcomes.
